The Sirius Theatrical Company works out of the 80-seat black box theatre, Donald Hendry Hall, in Mimico Presbyterian Church in south Etobicoke.
We focus on reflecting the cultural and artistic diversity of the greater Toronto community and in particular the many different cultures, languages, social and age groups that make up the Etobicoke community in which we live and work.
In all our activities, we value excellence, integrity, inclusivity, innovation and leadership.
Theatre Production - We provide consulting and artistic services to organizations that are developing and producing multi-cultural community arts performances and festivals. Mentoring opportunities for emerging theatre artists to work and train with professionals on theses production teams is always an integral part of any project with which we are involved.
Acting Studio - We offer after school and weekend improvisation acting classes for children and youth ages 7 - 17. For adults we offer group workshops from novice to intermediate levels in acting technique and scene study as well as voice for the theatre. A variety of comedy and improvisation workshops are available for corporate and senior clients. Private coaching is also available.
Voice Studio - We offer voice training for performing artists, singers, storytellers and speakers as well as the general public. Training is based on the Linklater Method of “Freeing the Natural Voice” ©. Group classes and weekend intensives are available as well as private tutoring.
In 1989, Artistic Director, Heather Dick, founded the Sirius Theatrical Company to produce exciting works by emerging Canadian playwrights. Our first show was a critically acclaimed production of JEWEL by Joan Macleod which we presented in the Back Space Theatre at Passe Muraille.
In 1996, our Acting Studio was officially established to provide professional instruction and quality training facilities for emerging actors. When we moved into our current 80-seat theatre space in 2006 we expanded our programming to offer recreational after school drama classes for children and youth. Now, we offer a thriving series of improv acting classes. Many of the young teens who have trained with us have gone on to continue their acting studies at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, the Father John Redmond Regional Arts Program, Rosedale School of the Arts and Mayfield High School (Arts Program) in Brampton.
The year 2000 was a turning point for the Company as our Artistic Director was hired as the Production Co-ordinator and Assistant Director on a multi-disciplinary community performance piece, SWIMMING FOR SHORE. Produced by Lakeshore Arts and LAMP in south Etobicoke and with Artistic Vision and Direction provided by Mixed Company Theatre, SWIMMING FOR SHORE opened the renovated Assembly Hall theatre in June 2001.
Following that production, Sirius Theatrical Company went on to produce or co-produce a number of our own large scale innovative, multi-disciplinary performance pieces (DREAMWEAVERS & TAPESTRY OF DREAMS for the City of Toronto Live With Culture program, FORGOTTEN VOICES with Lakeshore Arts for Heritage Canada, MY LAKESHORE - MY HOME for the City of Toronto Cultural Hotspot Program in 2015) as well as traditional shows, fundraisers and small Fringe productions. See our Productions page for more information.
In 2012 our Voice Studio was established to provide professional voice training based on the work of Kristin Linklater. We offer both group classes and private coaching. Artistic Director, Heather Dick, is a Designated Linklater Voice Teacher.
